Today there is a great emphasis placed upon the importance of health and safety. Whilst a great deal of health and safety legislation may seem reactionary and over the top to some people there is a good reason why it is in place. Health and safety is especially important to companies and businesses that have public liability. If a member of the public should injury themselves on their property, or using on their products then it may be possible for that injured person to take legal action against the firm. It is for these reason that a great deal of time and money is invested in considering what accidents and injuries could occur and then placing measures and protocol to prevent them from happening.
There are various health and safety aspects that businesses and organisations are obliged by law to fulfil. For example, a variety of fire safety equipment must be placed in certain buildings by law. Equipment such as fire extinguishers, sprinklers and fire blankets can be found in many public buildings. Also, fire escapes and heavy fire doors are also commonly found as they’re legally required to be fitted to a variety of different buildings, especially public buildings.
Although certain aspects of health and safety law may seem over the top it is best to bear in mind the old adage “it’s better to be safe than sorry” when considering the health and safety protocol and procedures that your own business may have to put in place.
