Assessment

The assessment is basically an ergonomic checklist. The assessment can be made by health and safety managers, line managers, supervisors or individual operators, however whoever carries out the assessment they must of received sufficient training before they are able to do so.

All workstations need to be assessed for all users who are likely to use that station.

Once the assessment is complete it must be recorded and be readily available.

Assessments should be reviewed when:

There are major software changes

There are major hardware changes

There are major workstation furniture changes

The workstation is relocated

There has been modification of the lighting

There is a substantial increase in the amount of time required to be spent using the VDU equipment.

There is a substantial change in the task

Research findings indicated any new risks, or an existing hazard should be re-evaluated.
