Employers to Employees
Part 1 section 1 of The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 places the following preliminary obligations upon all employers to ensure:
  • The health, safety and welfare of all persons at work
  • Protect other persons not connected with the workplace against risks to their health and safety arising out of or in connection with their work activity
  • Control the keeping of explosives, highly flammable or otherwise dangerous substances
  • Control the emission of noxious or offensive substances into the atmosphere

Part 1 section 2 of the Act places the following general duties as far as reasonably practicable upon all employers in respect of their employees:

  • The health, safety and welfare of all his employees
  • The provision and maintenance of plant and systems
  • Provide safe practices and absence of risks in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances
  • Provision of information, instruction and training
  • Maintain the workplace in a safe condition
  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment
