Fire Emergency Plan

All places of work which employ 5 or more persons must have a written fire and emergency plan, which should be made available to all employees. The plan also needs to be readily available for inspection by the fire authority. The purpose of the emergency plan is to:

  • Ensure that all persons in the workplace know what to do in the event of a fire; and
  • Ensure the work place can be evacuated safely.

If the workplace is a shared with other employers then the plan should be drawn up in consultation with other employers and the owner or other people who have control over the building.
