First Aid - Introduction
The provision of first aid facilities comes within the general clauses of the Health & Safety Act 1974, which requires employers to provide a safe and healthy workplace for their employees.

The specific regulations relating to first aid at work are found in The Health and Safety (First Aid) at work Regulations 1981 which require Employers to provide suitable and sufficient first aid provisions for all their employees whilst they are at work. The Revised Approved Code of Practice that came into force on the 14 March 1997 now require all employers to carry out a risk assessment of their first aid needs.

Some of the Regulations in the regulation section have been omitted, to view these a copy of the Approved Code of Practice may be obtained from HSE Books, ISBN 0-7176-1050-0
