Health and Safety Introduction
Since 1974 health and safety in the workplace has been controlled by The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 (1974 Act), which enhanced the Factories Act 1961 and placed obligations upon all employers in all workplaces.

The 1974 Act represents the Law and is the enabling act. Since this time there have been many new regulations introduced, which have further increased and clarified the obligations placed upon employers to keep the UK in line with European directives. Since the early 80's legislation has been increasing dramatically culminating in 1992 with the introduction of 6 new sets of regulations which included The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (the Management Regulations).
