| When
the competent person has carried out an examination / inspection of an item of
lifting equipment, a report of any defects found should be notified to the owner
user of the equipment. A verbal notification should be given immediately, where
the defect is serious or if it needs to be fixed before the equipment is used
again. A follow up written report should then be forwarded within 28 days of the
examination. All defects should be reported even if they were rectified on the spot, because it could be hiding a more serious fault. The report should be in writing. The report may also be sent to relevant enforcing authorities particularly if the fault is a design fault and could produce serious injury. |
