Safety Signs

Information, safety and warning signs are required in many different areas of an organisation for many various reasons. Any signs posted should be in a good condition and easy to understand. They should be displayed in areas where they are unlikely to become obstructed and can be seen by all persons.

The introduction of The Health and Safety (Safety Signs & Signals) Regulations in 1998 made it illegal to use text only safety signs in the United Kingdom.

Information, safety and warning signs may indicate the following: (this list is not exhaustive)

  • Health and safety law poster
  • Fire exits
  • Fire alarms
  • Fire doors
  • Fire fighting equipment etc
  • Where hard hats must be worn
  • Where ear protection must be worn
  • A hazardous area such as high voltage electricity
  • First aid facilities
